English language workshop: Focus on reading - working with complex texts

These weekly workshops are focussed on developing English language for academic writing. They run every term and are particularly useful for students whose first language is not English. They are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. All of the workshops are stand-alone, so you can sign up for the ones that are most relevant to you.

Focus on reading (1) Working with complex texts
How can I develop effective reading skills and increase my understanding of academic texts? This session looks at strategies for approaching reading in a focussed and manageable way, making the most of independent study time. It explores how to maximise comprehension of a text through analysing text structure, signposting and cohesive devices.
