This interactive online workshop is aimed at students, researchers and staff who wish to learn how to search for information effectively, perhaps for a dissertation or literature review.

Please note in advance of the workshop there is a requirement that you undertake some pre-workshop activities, that should take around 60 minutes to complete. This material will be shared on registering for the event.

Learning outcomes

  • Consider your information needs for a particular purpose*
  • Use subject guides to discover what the Library has to offer
  • Formulate a search using keywords and Boolean operators
  • Construct a search in a relevant database
  • Reflect on strategies you can use to improve your confidence and information skills

*This outcome is met though the pre-workshop activities

Feedback from previous workshops

The most useful thing I learned in this session... was the staging of a searh, from starting, refining, all the way to saving relevant results and exporting them.

I really liked the natural pace of everything - nothing felt forced
