Sofia Akel, an alumnus of Lancaster who founded the Why is my Curriculum White? chapter here, is an important voice advocating for university and curricula decolonisation and is a leading creative consultant, host, writer, and cultural historian. Sofia was recently listed on Guap x adidas "30 under 30" list. She is being announced as a Honorary Research Fellow at Lancaster this term. In this announcement event, Sofia will be in conversation with a current student about what it means to be a Black student at Lancaster, and how that relates to experiences of reading (Black) History at Lancaster, and what Black History Month means for them.
