Film screening: Reflections Unheard, Black Women in Civil Rights
Event box
The Race Equality Charter and LU Library are collaborating to host a film screening titled "Reflections Unheard: Black Women in Civil Rights" followed by a discussion in honour of Black History Month. This documetary sheds light on the often overlooked narrative of black women's political marginalisation amidst the dominance of the male-centric Black Power movement and the predominantly white and middle-class Feminist movement during the 1960s and 70s. This documentary explores the subsequent mobilisation of black and other women of colour, uniting them in a collective Feminist movement. The film achieves this by sharing the personal stories of several former black female Civil Rights activists.
"Reflections Unheard" is a documentary that uniquely centres on black women's significant contributions and experiences during the Civil Rights era.
Duration: 81 minutes.
Film Director: Nevline Nnaji
