A FHM Special Lecture for all PhD students

Whether you’re a first or final year PhD student, this presentation aims to help you to determine your career options and how to pursue them. Based on a career mapping tool linked to skills and interests, the presentation will lead you through the career planning process so that you feel more confident about moving forward after your PhD, whether within or outside of academia. The presentation will include practical methods about how to investigate and access a wide range of career sectors, from research to communication, NGOs to business, public health to enterprise. By the end of the presentation, you should feel more confident about managing your career, now and in the future.

Our speaker, Sarah Blackford (SFHEA), is an international career consultant, specialising in the biosciences, who has been delivering career trainings for PhD and postdoctoral researchers for over 20 years. With a background in the biosciences and higher qualifications in career education and coaching, Sarah has also authored a book, “Career planning for research bioscientists” and publishes a monthly blog on her website, www.biosciencecareers.org
