This course is organised by the English Language Development team and will be most relevant for students who are new to UK study.

This course is made up of three workshops (one each week in weeks 6-8) that focus on different aspects of writing essays in English. It is likely to be most useful for students at the start of their studies at Lancaster but is open to returning students as well. The workshops cover the following topics:

  1. Exploring essay questions and expectations (week 6)
  2. Building a clear structure (week 7)
  3. Developing your academic style (week 8)

They provide a space to learn more about assignment expectations, explore some of the key features of academic writing, and get some practical suggestions as you begin writing your first essay(s) of the term.
