In honour of Black History Month, join us for a captivating two-hour guided walking tour of the historic city of Lancaster, hosted by the Lancaster Maritime Museum. Led by expert guides, this tour offers a fascinating narrative that reveals the legacy of Lancaster’s involvement in the 18th century transatlantic slave trade. We will start our tour at the Maritime Museum, and from there, we’ll view some of the city’s sites and landmarks, considering Lancaster’s contributions to the transatlantic slave trade and how this history has impacted the look and feel of the local environment.

The tour runs from 10am to 1pm and includes admission to the Maritime Museum, where you will receive an introduction to the transatlantic slave trade galleries. Please note that the tour will involve climbing stairs and walking on uneven (and potentially slippery) surfaces. Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate apparel are required.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore Lancaster’s rich history and understand its complex past. Open to all LU students and staff, this event aligns with the Black History Month 2024 theme of “Reclaiming Narratives,” focusing on Honouring Our Heroes, Embracing Our Stories, Empowering and Educating.
