Graduate College is Looking for Arrivals Weekend Volunteers
Event box
Would you like to help us welcome new students to the College?
Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September is arrivals weekend for all the new students and researchers joining us on campus for the new academic year.
Around 700 postgraduates live in Graduate College and around campus, and we want to provide the best arrival and welcome experience we can. We know they love to meet and talk to current students - so we would love for you to join us in meeting, guiding, and chatting with new arrivals as they move into the college to start their new academic journey.
This role DOES NOT include any provision of accommodation, so it is only open to students who will already be living in Lancaster
The role includes:
- Being a friendly face and meeting new students as they arrive at the college
- Guiding them to their accommodation building
- Answering any questions they might have (or directing them to appropriate staff members if you do not have the answer!)
- Sharing any suggestions/tips you might have for settling in and getting to know Lancaster and the University
The role DOES NOT involve
- Carrying their luggage
- Dealing with any room or flat issues - staff are here for those
In exchange for your time, you will receive:
- A certificate of participation - you can also use the volunteering experience toward the Lancaster Award
- A Graduate College T-shirt
- Free entry to the Sugarhouse all week
- Drinks, snacks, and soup lunch in the college during arrivals weekend
We will provide training and information prior to the arrivals weekend, and a reminder of the role and any key information at the start of each shift.
If you are interested, please sign up here - you will be able to indicate which shift you would prefer to do here as well.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the volunteering role, please email Jane or Message via Teams
Thanks!
