SUMMARY:Inclusive Teaching: Offering a tailored approach in supporting students’ learning in maths
DESCRIPTION:The Maths Learning Development Team (MLD) at Lancaster 
 University (LU) is running a sharing practice event to promote our student 
 maths support service.  Our approach to maths learning development is 
 focused on providing a proactive\, tailored and timely delivered service\, 
 which allows meeting the demand of a diverse student body (e.g. students 
 from non-traditional university entry routes and students who have specific 
 learning difficulties (SpLD)) to enhance students’ learning experience 
 and improve retention.\n\nOur innovative maths support approach stemmed 
 from the ideas developed while working with Faculty of Science and 
 Technology departments to benefit students. Many maths learning development 
 activities that we provide are now embedded into the course delivery in 
 Engineering\, Maths\, Physics\, and Lancaster Environmental Centre. We are 
 expanding our service and have been working on implementing this proactive 
 approach at the LU Management School.\n\nWe run these activities alongside 
 more generic maths support\, such as generic workshops\, drop-ins and 
 tutorials. The MLD team also run Maths Boot Camps once a term – a series 
 of parallel workshops on algebra and calculus offered at basic and advanced 
 level. This year we are piloting a new scheme – “Academic mentoring for 
 SpLD students” and working on a Peer-Assisted Study Sessions scheme in 
 the School of Computing and Communication and are keen to offer these 
 schemes to more students.\n\nThe MLD team has received very positive 
 feedback from our students\, so we would like to share our experience and 
 lessons from practice with colleagues at LU and in the wider HE sector. We
