Description:

This 60-minute session will cover 2 activities available within Moodle, with hands-on opportunities to try out each.

The "workshop" activity is used to conduct peer assessment, a process where students mark each other's work as if they were the tutor in order to give each other feedback and cement their understanding of a subject by critiquing others.

The "peer assessment" activity is used when conducting group work and allows students to "rate" each other's contribution towards the work submission, these ratings can be used to identify problems with group dynamics, but also to moderate a final grade based on contribution, this is particularly useful in avoiding anxieties around "freeloaders" in groups.

This session takes place in-person in Library Training Room 1

Outcomes:

At the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify use cases for both peer moderation and peer assessment.
  • Configure peer assessment and moderation activities to suit your assessment design.
  • Experience both activities from a student perspective.

Suitable For:

This session is more suited to academic staff, but it may also be useful to attend with a member of your professional services teaching team to ensure it fits within your departmental processes.
